What is AI code review?
Definition
AI code review is when an AI model reads a code change, most often the diff of a pull request (PR), and leaves comments that point out bugs, security issues or style problems, usually with a suggested fix. It does not replace a human reviewer: GitHub's docs say Copilot "is not guaranteed to spot all problems" and advise supplementing it with a human review.

Two examples
- GitHub Copilot code review: you add Copilot as a reviewer on a pull request, or turn on automatic reviews. It works on GitHub.com, in the GitHub CLI and GitHub Mobile, and in IDEs including VS Code, Visual Studio, Xcode and JetBrains. You can choose Lite, Balanced or Max effort. GitHub estimates an average of $0.25, $1.50 and $10 in AI credits per review at those levels, and it skips dependency files such as
package.jsonandGemfile.lock, log files and SVG files. - Cursor Bugbot: it analyzes PR diffs and comments with explanations and fix suggestions. It runs on each PR update or when you comment
cursor revieworbugbot run, and it reads project rules from.cursor/BUGBOT.md. Bugbot uses usage-based billing.

Why it matters for AI-written code
When an AI agent or a vibe coding session writes code you did not read line by line, a second AI pass on the diff is a cheap check before merge. Our AI code review tools guide compares Copilot, Bugbot, CodeRabbit and Farol with prices and sources.
